Indo-Canadian Wedding

Alpesh and Junipers wedding during the July long weekend is one that I will never forget.  Not one conversation between myself and the couple was ever about their day. Our calls included consideration of every family member. The colours for the ceremony and reception was a decision that took months, making sure that each colour had a meaning and reflected their family. Combining their cultures was something they did not take lightly.

During the wedding ceremony, Alpesh and Juniper wore traditional Indian outfits, celebrating the colour and joyfulness found in Indian ceremonies. The bridal party wore casual clothing traditional to western culture but reflected Juniper's laid-back personality. They had a civil service with the Indian culture of exchanging floral wreaths symbolizing members of the family becoming one. They choose to have a close friend officiate their ceremony and relate their relationship to their surroundings, the island, and family. The Indian tradition of the parents blessing to the couple took place, as well the most important people in their lives; the bridal party to said something about the love they have witnessed and gave well wishes to the couple. The ceremony included a program of each element of the service where it was explained where the tradition came from, how they made it part of their celebration and what it meant to them.

Following the 1 hour ceremony, they made sure to that their guests to a lunch under the beautiful Filberg trees. There were beautiful cocktail tables with some small rounds and a picnic area with a stunning umbrella (made in India, of course) for the kids. They had music, toys and amazing food from As you like it catering! They did an amazing job to include a mixture of Indian and Canadian food, that was all locally grown, non-GMO, vegan, and gluten-free!

After some fun bridal party pictures at Goose Spit beach in Comox and outfit change, they headed to the ceremony where guests were greeted by our staff and free drinks. The kids were even greeted with something special, a whole area dedicated to each of them! They had asked all the parents what each child liked and we created an area with crafts and toys individual to each child. How amazing is that?

An amazing slideshow was the prelude to their grand entrance. The slideshow was emotional with photos of the couple and their adoption of Juniper’s nephew.  Every family member was included with no one forgotten.  This tribute to their family didn’t stop there, after a fantastic entrance to a transformed Filberg Centre the speeches were full of tears, words of love and thanks.

The favourite part of the reception was just before the cake cutting, Alpesh and Juniper had made Alpesh’s mom her favourite cake and brought it out as a surprise only as the cake cutting was being announced. Staff brought out the cake as a surprise birthday cake with everyone singing happy birthday!
